Whether you identify with a particular religion or no religion at all, Spiritual Direction can help you discover the Sacred in your life.
Spiritual Direction has a rich tradition throughout history and across different spiritual traditions. It is a contemplative practice of helping another person awaken to the spiritual aspect of being human and reflect on their relationship with the Sacred.
As a trained Spiritual Director, I help you tell your sacred stories and explore the meaning of your experience. We usually have a conversation once a month in person, by phone, or Skype. In our time together, we look with intention and compassion at the events in your life and discover the meaning and movement of Spirit. We look at your whole life, not just the part that is experienced in a house of worship. A basic tenet of direction is that the Divine can be found in all things and experiences.
It is important to know what spiritual direction IS NOT. While spiritual direction and psychotherapy both explore your life, provide healing, are intentional and confidential, and are professional relationships with ethical standards of practice, spiritual direction is NOT psychotherapy. Spiritual direction focuses on embracing struggles, not solving problems. It is about letting go of ego. It is about listening to the teaching of one’s pain and discovery of inner wisdom.
My spiritual direction practice is informed by the Enneagram, a tool for spiritual development. It provides a powerful roadmap for self-observation, personal growth and, ultimately, a path to greater freedom.
